Alister Weston, from Medway in Kent, will begin his first foray into the world of car racing, competing in this year’s Porsche Sprint Challenge GB with the highly successful Graves Motorsport team who took class honours season.
Alister, formally an amateur motorcycle racer on 250cc bikes, will race the 425bhp Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport in the Amateur category in 2025. The one-make Porsche backed race series supports the popular British Touring Car Championship and shares in its professional profile that attracts more than 300,000 people trackside per annum and many millions more watching live, at home, via ITV Sports coverage. Each event features pre-event testing which Alister will use to get up to speed before a qualifying and three races over a weekend. 20-minute sprint races ensure entertaining action for those watching, and indeed Alister competing.
Whilst this is Alister’s debut season in a race car, it’s not his first time racing, nor his first time on track. In his earlier years he raced in the Yamaha LC series riding a RD250LC and later moved onto a TZR250, he’ll be looking to harness that race craft and experience when he gets on track at Donington Park for the first race at the end of April. He is no stranger to driving a car around a track either, completing a handful of track days in his Porsche GT3 at Brands Hatch, the Indy Circuit being the second round of the championship (10th-11th May). The series will wind up at Kent’s prestigious racing venue giving Alister the chance to drive the GP circuit for the first time, often a favourite for racers.
Alister will join the Graves Motorsport team that took the Clubsport Am category title last season with Jonathon Beeson at the wheel. The team were also victorious in the RS Am category, the slightly more powerful version of Alister’s race car that competes at the same time, and were vice-champions in the overall series with their top-seeded driver. The team have multiple title success in a range of tin-top racing series and are used to helping new drivers on their racing journey.
Alister said, “I am incredibly excited to be competing in the 2025 Porsche Sprint Challenge series! This marks my very first season of racing, and to debut in such a prestigious championship is an incredible opportunity and a dream come true. I’m eager to embrace every moment of the journey—pushing my limits, learning from this incredible experience, and, of course, enjoying the thrill of racing alongside such talented drivers. I’m delighted to become part of the Graves Motorsport Team in 2025 and look forward to an amazing journey with them!”
Team manager Karl Graves added, “We are delighted to have Alister racing in a Porsche with us this season. He is eager to learn and his racing and track day experience will stand him in good stead, however our expert team of engineers, mechanics and driver coaches will help Alister acclimatise to his Porsche Cayman as we get closer to the start of the season. Having won the class championship last year, we will be supporting Alister in the hope he can retain it for the team.”
Alister’s race car will be getting it’s new colours soon, courtesy of Prestige Graphics who are based in Sittingbourne, before testing begins later in February and into March before the season starts in earnest in April. If you’d like to keep a track of Alister’s racing exploits this season you can follow him on Instagram (@alisterweston) or via Graves Motorsport on any of the social media channels, get trackside to support him in person or watch along on ITV.
