2022 MINI CHALLENGE UK Trophy Champion Nelson King will race in the 2023 JCW class of the championship after signing to continue with the family-run Graves Motorsport team that helped him to secure dominant title success last season.
King won the 2022 MINI Challenge Trophy series in emphatic style, winning the first 4 races on the bounce on his way to 11 wins throughout the season. His lowest finishing position was 6th and he was only off the podium in 3 races. Prior to that King had been competing in karts becoming the vice LGM Champion in 2018 and 4th in British Championship in 2020. Long-term sponsors BHRV will continue to back the 20-year-old Kent based driver for his maiden JCW campaign.
Nelson King said “I am delighted to retain my place in the Graves Motorsport line-up and look forward to my third season with the team. Coming from a highly successful cooper campaign last year, I'm looking forward to adapting to the Mini JCW, and with a great team behind me, we can achieve some strong results.”
Team manager David Graves said “We are delighted to be continuing to work with Nelson into the 2023 season. He really matured in 2022 and wasn’t just quick and consistent but measured too. He has already begun testing in the JCW car and early signs are encouraging. As well as Nelson taking more than half the victories in the Trophy series last year we also experienced significant success with 8 wins in the JCW class, we’re sure that experience will help Nelson to get up to speed quickly and challenge at the front.”
The JCW class of the MINI CHALLENGE will support the British Touring Car Championship at 7 events in the season, starting at Donington Park in April and finishing with King’s home circuit of Brands Hatch in early October.
